Damn

Right now I am both angry and saddened by yet another lousy sign of the times.

Someone posted a notice on our bulletin board here at work on behalf of a friend. The friend very recently lost their job and their house and has to move the family into an apartment. The posted problem is that they have two three-year-old labs that have been together since birth, and they simply cannot take them with them. They really need to find someone who will take both dogs, which will be as easy as finding a diamond ring at the city dump.

The posting includes a photo of the dogs, and they are truly beautiful animals. I would gladly take them but I can barely afford the two dogs I have now.

The whole thing is heartbreaking, and I'm sure it's not an isolated occurance. It just really sucks big ones that things like this are happening to innocent animals, through no fault of their own or their owners. I feel so helpless...

  1. That is so sad. If I'd been unemployed just a few weeks longer, I too would have had to give up my cat and my dog, which would have been beyond devastating.

The shelters are overcrowded right now due to the home foreclosures in the country, not to mention all the dogs and cats left stranded from natural disasters like the hurricanes that've struck in the last few years.

I wish I could take all the dogs home with me. It's so very sad.

  2. I wish I could, too. I could barely stand to look at that photo. Those poor things will not understand whatever happens to them. And you can bet they will languish if separated. It just kills me.

  3. How sad. Actually, I've never thought of the effects the economy could have on animals, but this just breaks my heart, as I realize how this trickles down. Very sad. :-( Hugs.

  4. I think that if you notify the local lab rescue (They are all over the country) I believe you can get some assistance. They are all over the net. There is help out there man.

  5. There is a local lab rescue. Apparently they will take the dogs and place them, but they will split them up. That's the story I got.
